BetterOCR is a tool that enhances text detection by combining multiple OCR engines with LLM (Language Model). It aims to improve OCR results, especially for languages with limited training data or noisy outputs. The tool combines results from EasyOCR, Tesseract, and Pororo engines, along with LLM support from OpenAI. Users can provide custom context for better accuracy, view performance examples by language, and upcoming features include box detection, improved interface, and async support. OCR still sucks! ... Especially when you're from the other side of the world (and face a significant lack of training data in your language) — or just not thrilled with noisy results.
BetterOCR combines results from multiple OCR engines with an LLM to correct & reconstruct the output.

Currently supports EasyOCR (JaidedAI), Tesseract (Google), and Pororo (KakaoBrain).
- For Pororo, we're using the code from https://github.com/black7375/korean_ocr_using_pororo
(Pre-processing ➡️ Text detection with EasyOCR ➡️ Text recognition with BrainOCR (Pororo's OCR module)). - Pororo is used only if the language options (
lang
) specified include either 🇺🇸 English (en
) or 🇰🇷 Korean (ko
). Also additional dependencies listed in[tool.poetry.group.pororo.dependencies]
must be available. (If not, it'll automatically be excluded from enabled engines.)
Supports Chat models from OpenAI.
Allows users to provide an optional context to use specific keywords such as proper nouns and product names. This assists in spelling correction and noise identification, ensuring accuracy even with rare or unconventional words.

Each environment is designed by a professional artist and features detailed geometry, photorealistic materials, and a unique floor plan and object layout. SPEAR is implemented as Unreal Engine assets and provides an OpenAI Gym interface for interacting with the environments via Python.
